this was a story from CDM if you don’t know but, after reading specific parts of the report, i thought that maybe i should post a little about this (i’ll tell you why after). daniel hansson, pictured below, was a co-founder of the wildly innovative elektron. elektron created devices such as the machinedrum and the monomachine, which are intelligent, elegant, exceptional pieces of music creation - with a cult

following to boot. sadly, daniel died abruptly in a tragic car accident very shortly after arguru (discodsp, imageline, etc.) had passed away in the same manner. in either case, there has been a tribute compilation created called “45 tribute” which has 30 tracks on the cd for $5 bucks. the proceeds are being directed at the world wildlife fund, which was daniel’s favorite charity. peter also reports on CDM that the “organizers don’t have a PR budget for this, so we’re their PR”, and that means a lot. dig up $5 somewhere and pick up this tribute to a revolutionary individual who gave his life to creativity.

#soundsets//synthesis::constructed

April 18th, 2008 | 4 Comments | Posted in sound packs
ok, time for some new free sounds. everybody loves free don’t they? yes, they do. this is a pack of single cycle waveforms for use in Wusikstation and Straightliner VSTi plug-ins, or really any other plug that accepts single cycle waveforms. load them up, mangle them, or whatever. i don’t really care what you do with them. as with the theatrical project i’m working on, i’m releasing these waveforms under the creative commons attributions 3.0 license.

there will also be a variety of soundsets for wusikstation and straighliner that i’ll be releasing that are based off these waveforms, so look out for them when they’re released. i’ll probably stick with the 24 presets-per-pack style thing that i’ve been doing for a while now.

#compositions//audio.for.theatre

April 15th, 2008 | 3 Comments | Posted in compositions
now it’s time for some more fun with audio, everybody. i’ve got a few more pieces to put up here that i’ve just been playing with for the theatre project you see in the post below this one. these tracks aren’t complete, but i wanted to put them up here for people to check out. have fun,

Banterbury Tales - Envy
i created this track last night to add into a portion of the production that required a bit of a dark/sad feel with a slow drawn out beat.

Download

Banterbury Tales - Out of Words
they needed something a bit more soundtrackish for certain parts of the performance where the vocals would need to be quite prevalent. ta-da!

Download

Banterbury Tales - Demo The Sky
we were looking to get some material together that we can use specifically for areas of the performance where no vocals were present, so i put together something a little more beat driven.

#projects//open.source.theatre

well, for a nice change in scenery, Your Theatre Company is allowing the release of their new performance through open source mediums. sweet deal. what that means is they will be allowing me to release each composition, master tracks included, to you. this will all be licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license and allows others to “copy, distribute, display, and perform” the work — and derivative works based upon it — but only if they give credit the way you request.” not only are they allowing me to release the compositions i create, but they are also going to be releasing individual scenes from the performance as well. it should be fun to see what people come up with from this. for more information, please visit the weblog they’ve created for the show, or the Banterbury Tales website.

#projects//banterbury.tales

March 30th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in my projects
the unbelievable x-engine studios has constructed a new website for santo sucio, performance artist with whom i am collaborating currently. santo’s newest manifestation is called ‘banterbury tales - conversations from a street corner‘ which delves deep into the religious, personal, and ethical contradictions of a world devoid of moral, ethnic, and sexual value. love him or hate him, you can’t deny that santo pushes the bounds of not only creativity, but also popular patterns of thought. In partnership with santo is cellinette, who is not only a unbelievably talented erotic spoken word artist, but also an inspiration to the overall concept of ‘banterbury tales’. her ingenious contribution in creativity to the score of this project are not only notable, but invaluable as well.
